Engaging Culture

ENGAGING CULTURE is a four-week Bible study series that presents a Biblical case for Christian influence into government. Down through history, God has used His people to bring His truth and purpose to bear on governments of the day.

The legacy of figures such as William Wilberforce and Martin Luther King Jnr provides compelling examples of how Christian love for others led to political action. They knew God’s plan is for justice and righteousness in nations. Their history-changing impact is featured in this series.

Free copies of the session speaking notes and group discussions questions are available below. Information on how to purchase the DVD (which includes bonus DVD The Better Hour on the life of William Wilberforce) is provided below.

ENDORSEMENTS

We live in rapidly changing times and it is essential that the church of Jesus Christ seeks to remain relevant and engaged with our culture. Courses such as this one by the Australian Christian Lobby will serve to make that priority a reality. I highly recommend it.

Mark Conner, Senior Pastor CityLife Church, Melbourne

Australians can find it hard to think clearly about how to be a citizen. The authors of these interesting studies have spent a lot of time engaging politically as Christians, and they hope for you to think about how you will be a citizen while also following Jesus.

Rev Dr Andrew Cameron, Moore TheologicalCollege, Anglican Diocese of Sydney

Christians need to get out of their bunkers and speak truth, love and compassion into our sorry society. These excellent studies are designed to help every Christian to know that they are God’s salt and light in the world He alone rules over.

Rev David Palmer, Convener, Church & NationCommittee, Presbyterian Church of Victoria

The DVD series “Engaging Culture” produced by ACL seeks to mix Biblical teaching and inspirational examples from history to challenge the Australian Church to engage in the politics of our nation. I want to endorse the work of ACL in producing this resource and encourage every Church and Christian group to use this resource to create discussion and motivate action.

Karl Faase, Senior Pastor Gymea Baptist Church, Sydney

This is a valuable study for those who are wondering whether and how Christians should participate in public life. William Wilberforce and his Christian supporters led the greatest human rights campaign in the history of mankind, and less than 200 years ago slavery was finally abolished. Wilberforce was in no doubt that the Christian should with grace, courage and sound argument, seek to champion Christian values in the public arena, and there can be no doubt that his actions have massively benefitted us all and glorified Christ as well.

John Anderson, former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia
