Tonight’s budget funds the Gillard Government’s election promise to provide an extra $222 million towards the popular National School Chaplaincy Program.
Australian Christian Lobby Chief of Staff Lyle Shelton welcomed the inclusion of the election commitment in the budget.
“It was great to see the Treasurer Wayne Swann mention the chaplaincy funding in his budget speech tonight,” Mr Shelton said.
Prior to the election Prime Minister Julia Gillard committed to the continuance of the chaplaincy program and promised it would retain its faith-based nature.
Tonight’s announcement extends funding for 2700 chaplains until 2014 and will allow an extra 1000 schools to employ a chaplain.

This is great news, however there is still the High Court challenge that is lurking in the wings.
James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Praise God for answered prayer.
