If the public were properly informed of the reality of the unspeakable cruelty which results from open-slather abortion laws, surveys would find less enthusiasm for the practice, the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) said in response to claims today that decriminalising abortion has high public support.
ACL spokesperson Michelle Pearse said people would be less favourable if they knew where Victorian-style decriminalisation of abortion leads – the termination of unborn babies all the way to full term.
Ms Pearse said it is difficult to give credence to research on abortion when the lead author of the findings is a doctor implicated in the questionable abortion of a near-term baby who opposes the kind of laws that would have held him accountable.
“It was Dr de Crespigny’s ending of the life of a 32-week unborn baby girl with suspected dwarfism in 2000 which was used as a lever for the Victorian law change in 2008. And the result of decriminalisation? A recent media report indicated that there has been a huge increase in late-term abortions at Melbourne’s Royal Women’s Hospital since decriminalisation – from one per fortnight to an alarming three per week.
“The tragedy compounds when you consider that in 2007 – even prior to decriminalisation – 345 late-term babies were aborted in Victoria, with 52 of them found to be still alive after the procedure and left to die.”
Abortion claims 80,000-100,000 unborn children each year. Ms Pearse said public opinion could never make abortion right, just as slavery was always wrong even when it enjoyed public support before laws were changed in Britain and America.
Ms Pearse said the tragedy of late-term babies being born alive and left to die – at a stage when they are old enough to survive in neonatal nurseries – happens regularly in Australia. These cruel practices would likely increase if the pro-abortion lobby had its way in convincing other States to follow Victoria’s example.
“Too often the abortion debate is couched in terms of rare scenarios which bear little resemblance to common practice. In reality, most abortions are for ‘psycho-social’ reasons or non-lethal or doubtful abnormalities. Rarely are women with unsupported pregnancies given real alternatives,” Ms Pearse said.
“Instead we see women being left to the counselling of abortion clinics and any real information about what happens to aborted babies being banished from the public discussion as too distasteful. Most States don’t even keep up-to-date statistics, despite the cross party recommendation of a recent Senate inquiry.”

Induced abortion is a horrific catastrophe anywhere, let alone Australia, which is dangerously UNDERpopulated.
Talk is cheap. Where is the William Wilberforce of our time to stand up and make a real difference to stop abortion as he did is stopping the slave trade
If we are so appalled by the open slather abortion, why is the ACL lending one scrap of support for Julia Gillard, Australia’s PM who is openly pro-abortion? It does not matter what else she stands for when her opposing opponent is openly pro-life. Why isn’t the ACL pulling out all stops to make sure Tony Abbott becomes Australia’s next PM at the forthcoming election? Please this is our one chance to rid our country of a pro-abortion atheist Prime Minister.
Bern, you are so right why does the ACL give any credibility to a pro-abortion prime minister who must support the decriminalisation of abortion that is being called for in the media?
I agree the forth coming election is a great chance for the ACL to oppose keeping MS Gillard in office when she will not stop the open slather abortion of our future Australians. Please do not give her any more support or air play.
Why? when we live in a country where we are allowed freedom of speech that we are unable to make this country aware of the terrible truth of how barbaric abortion is? If it is too distasteful to discuss abortion, it proves that it is deep down regarded as wrong or immoral. It should be presented in Parliament that in one medical facility Doctors are fighting to save the life of a premature baby and in another medical facility(Abortion Clinic) Doctors are destroying the potential life of another baby. What hypocrisy!!! What happened to the adoption program in our country? The millions of dollars spent on I.V.F every year could may be avoided to some degree if there was a better adoption program in Australia. All of these potential aborted babies could go to full term and be adopted by loving families. Maybe a Government payment/incentive could be offered to mothers who are wanting to abort their babies, with the understanding they would have to deliver the baby and it would be adopted out. It is so sad that we label so many things today and don’t call abortion what it really is ‘MURDER’. In our country we talk about discrimination and everyone has to make their own choices. People need to realize that if the aborted baby could have a voice that he or she would not choose to have been removed from her mothers womb by heinous methods and left to die. I know I am not telling you anything you don’t already know. If little old me can do something to make a difference let me know. Christian mother of four. My prayers are with you all.
Are there not any ways other than a website to deliver truth to the public? Is there access to public education? I am aware because I read Christian publications but how do others get truth? I shall write to my local paper but they may not print the letter. What else can be done? I have written to the minister on some issues. What more?
